Source. The ring mechanics, the seven verbs, the bracket separators and the target="top" are copied byte for byte from a real navigation fragment on geocities.com/EnchantedForest/1001/webrings.html, Wayback capture 9 October 1999, preserved in reference/2-discovery/webring/MARKUP.md. The 48 member sites are a recreation and they are not real people. Their palettes are not invented: every background, text and link color on this page is copied out of a real <body> tag from a captured 1997 to 2002 page in reference/1-decoration/88x31-button/period-pages/. The tiles are rehosted from Texture Town. The names, owners and copy are written for this plate. No real personal site is reproduced or impersonated here.
Deliberately absent. A founding year for webring.org: the service is archived from 19 October 1996 and the widely repeated 1995 is not sourced in this folder. Any ring or member count: the 1996 home page carries growth claims, but they are that company's marketing on its own site, not a measurement. The sale, the decline, and the idea that search engines killed rings: none of that is sourced yet, so none of it is asserted.
